The Local Skipper course is advanced training for those who wish to expand their knowledge of recreational boating and obtain a license to skipper larger vessels with greater autonomy. With this certification, trainees will be able to drive boats of up to 24 meters in coastal navigation up to 25 nautical miles from the coast, both day and night.
Course objectives
During the Local Boss course, you will learn to:
- Carry out long-distance coastal navigation planning, applying knowledge of nautical charts and advanced navigation instruments.
- Operating vessels safely, adjusting to changing weather and sea conditions.
- Managing and coordinating the crew on board, ensuring safe and efficient driving.
- Aplicar técnicas de segurança e primeiros socorros adequadas para navegação em águas costeiras e de maior exposição.
Course structure
The course includes theoretical and practical modules, covering areas such as advanced coastal navigation, meteorology applied to navigation, radio communications, maritime regulations and emergency procedures. Practical training on board allows all the knowledge acquired to be applied in a real-life context, preparing trainees for the final exam.
This course is suitable for sailors who want to broaden their scope of action and explore new destinations with greater safety and autonomy, offering a solid foundation for those who, in the future, want to move on to Coast Master certification or other levels of professional navigation.
